Eye Graduated

Praise the Lord! I went early Wednesday afternoon to see Dr Rhea Anne Ordoyo, at Medical Plaza, for my 3 week follow up appointment concerning my Cataract Surgery. All was well and Doctora told me…You Graduated! No more Eye follow up appointments for 3 months.

Concerning the Macular Degeneration in my left eye, I am on an enhanced National Eye Institute recommended diet, to help combat the disorder. There is nothing in the diet that I do not enjoy eating, among Fish, Lean Meats, Veggies, Fruits and Nuts. It is always best to intake your Vitamins, Nutrients and Minerals via Food than by taking Supplements, which can be a risk to some people with a history of allergic reactions to oral Medications and/or Supplements.

How do these sound to ya? Fresh Fruits…Avocado, Red Grapes, Mangoes, Kiwi, Oranges, Pomelo, Cantaloupe, Watermelon and Dried Fruits. For Snacks…Almonds, Walnuts, Pistachios, Cashews, Sunflower Seeds and Pumpkin Seeds. Fresh Veggies…Spinach, Broccoli, Chinese Cabbage, Mustard Greens, Zucchini, Carrots, Squash, Pumpkin, Sweet Potatoes, Bell Peppers (especially Orange ones), Black Eye Peas, Red Beans, and local Vegetables found in the Philippines. Some of these local Green Leafy Vegetables do not have an English name, that I know of! Malunggay and Kang Kong come to mind.

The Main Course

I did not have to cut back since I always eat lean cuts of Pork and Beef. I trim the fat when necessary. I already eat more Chicken than I eat Pork and Beef.

Fish and Shellfish. I Sea Food and eat them all! There is a Treasure Trove of Fresh Seafood all around Bacolod, especially in the South of the city, where we like to buy from local Fisher Folk. Their Seafood is always Sea Fresh! Fish, Shrimp and Prawns, Crabs, Green Shell Mussels, Oysters, Clams and seasonal Scallops.

The Fish I most often ate in the past was Cream Dory Fillets, which is actually Shark Catfish that originates from Vietnam. It is readily available in Bacolod City Supermarkets. For my Eye Health, I am now eating more Fatty Fish for their Omega 3 benefit. Salmon, Sardines, Mackerel, Tuna and Anchovies.

I will have to cut back on the Fried Shellfish but not completely. Fried Oysters rock! Hey, have you ever tried Deep Fried Mussels? They are good, too!

I hope to see you one day, somewhere…all around Bacolod.

Your Amigo,

~ Gary ~
